Trailers, Quotes and a 1999 Tape Tale

‘Godzilla’ TV spot

‘Godzilla’ TV spot 2
Bryan Cranston yells and Godzilla roars. No, the 1998 abomination has put me off this genre for life.

Best Lines:
“They were trying to kill something.”

“It is going to send us back to the Stone Age.”

‘Withnail and I’ Quotes:
“I mean to have you, even if it must be burglary.”

“Toilet trader."

‘Futurama’ Quotes:
“Don’t thank me, thank the ladder.”

“I can’t be mad, I’m on way too much painkillers.”

‘V For Vendetta’ (movie) Quotes:
“We must avoid clinging to the edifice of a decadent past.”

“They were interned at Belmarsh.”
“Oh no.”
“Yeah, she died during the hunger strike. And he copped it when the military retook the shed.”

“When Sutler was appointed High Chancellor, they were at the riot in Leeds.”

“What you have are bullets and the hope that when your guns are empty I’m no longer standing. Because if I am, you’ll all be dead before you’ve reloaded.”

“It would behoove you to cease any investigation of matters that have long since passed and concentrate on the concerns of our present.”

“Where did you get all this stuff?”
“Oh, here and there. Much of it from the vaults of the Ministry of Objectionable Materials.”

“I love it. A cow getting crucified.”

“The world’s biggest leper colony. Why? Godlessness. Let me say that again. Godlessness. It wasn’t the war they started. It wasn’t the plague they created. It was judgement.”

‘Dr Phil’ Quotes:
“She described me as spiteful, deceitful, hateful.”

“I don’t care how you feel.”

“What effect are you trying to have on me?”

“You’ve wasted your time and mine.”

“You do not have a bonding bone in your body.”

“Stop this circus.”

“What’s judgemental?”

“Get the government out of your family.”

‘The Simpsons’ Quotes:
“Why are we best friends?”

“Pick up weirdo kid.”

“I can breathe through my tear ducts.”

“Where is he, old man?”

“If you’re my wife’s secret lover, come in.”

“Do not stink up the Gorn head.”

“Can’t you say anything in a normal way?”
“The answer sadly is not yes.”

“I will follow the trail of your fear.”

“Every day has the peace and serenity of a flu outbreak.”

“This knife’s got to carve something.”

“Flap! Flap!”

“You can listen to your wife when you are dead.”

Cleared out a 1999 tape. It began with an ‘X Files’ ep ‘Three of a Kind’ in which the Lone Gunmen are in Las Vegas. Cue everyday sexism, one of the LG’s is reunited with his lost Lenore, Scully does stuff, outmoded technology is on display and this was implausible and creaking. Then came a ‘Star Trek Voyager’ ep ‘Bride of Chaotica!’ which was partly in black and white and was a holodeck ep. This was inexcusably drudging.

Then came a ‘Crusade’ ep ‘The Well of Forever’ in which TPTB show off how they managed to screw up a show with Gary Cole and Peter Woodward. Galen’s borderline psychopathy is on display. There are paranoid overreactions, inexcusably bad CGI and humourless ‘comedy’. This was a mess of unintelligible inadequacies and boring subplots.

Best Line:
“Where do you go on vacation? Another part of the room?”

Finally there was another ‘X Files’ ep ‘Field Trip’ in which Mulder calls Scully on her antagonism and sneering. Bog sludge isn’t bog sludge. Mulder is sour. A couple died in the Brown Mountains (the man can’t act, the woman is Robyn Lively). A grey alien shows up and the unease and fear is severely disrupted. 97% of this ep turns out to be hallucinated. The rustic horror of mouldering fungus is undone by clunkiness and absurd writing.  Jim Beaver shows up as a coroner. Scully solves the case: a giant man-eating fungus is attacking people. Had promise but squandered it.

Best Lines:
“I found your remains in that same field.”

“We never escaped. We’re still trapped underground.”
