Cleared out a 1999 tape. It began with an ‘X Files’ ep ‘Three of a Kind’ in which the Lone Gunmen are in Las Vegas. Cue everyday sexism, one of the LG’s is reunited with his lost Lenore, Scully does stuff, outmoded technology is on display and this was implausible and creaking. Then came a ‘Star Trek Voyager’ ep ‘Bride of Chaotica!’ which was partly in black and white and was a holodeck ep. This was inexcusably drudging.
Then came a ‘Crusade’ ep ‘The Well of Forever’ in which TPTB show off how they managed to screw up a show with Gary Cole and Peter Woodward. Galen’s borderline psychopathy is on display. There are paranoid overreactions, inexcusably bad CGI and humourless ‘comedy’. This was a mess of unintelligible inadequacies and boring subplots.

Finally there was another ‘X Files’ ep ‘Field Trip’ in which Mulder calls Scully on her antagonism and sneering. Bog sludge isn’t bog sludge. Mulder is sour. A couple died in the Brown Mountains (the man can’t act, the woman is Robyn Lively). A grey alien shows up and the unease and fear is severely disrupted. 97% of this ep turns out to be hallucinated. The rustic horror of mouldering fungus is undone by clunkiness and absurd writing. Jim Beaver shows up as a coroner. Scully solves the case: a giant man-eating fungus is attacking people. Had promise but squandered it.
