The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013)
Katniss and Peeta won the 74th Hunger Games but they still live in a dystopian hell. As their victory tour goes awry, President Snow connives a plan to rid himself of the irksome Katniss who has became a symbol of rebellion against the fragile rule of the Capitol. Katniss, Peeta and other victors are thrown back in the arena for the 75th Hunger Games. There is death, blood and fear all round as the shaky rule of the decadent Capitol and the politics of tyranny receive unexpected blows.
This was good and the higher budget really shows. The Capitol is decadent and cruel, the Districts are desperate, the new gamesmaster (Philip Seymour Hoffman) looks sweaty and high and District 13 is finally mentioned. Gale broods, Peeta is wet and Katniss is undecided. The cliffhanger ending is cruel, oh poor poor Katniss.
“If it weren’t for the baby.”
