From the director of ‘Saw’ and ‘Insidious’ comes this alleged true story horror. Ed (Patrick Wilson of ’Watchmen’ and ’Insidious’) and Lorraine Warren (Vera Farmiga of ’Source Code’) are real life 1970s paranormal investigators who tackle spooky goings on via logic and their faith. The Perron family (Lili Taylor & Ron Livingston) move into a huge sprawling house with their five daughters. There is something demonic going on, not least the fashions, the interior décor and how the Perron’s afforded their huge lakeside home on pa Perron’s big rig salary. The 1st half of this is terrifying and disturbing but the 2nd half goes so far OTT that it is no longer scary. The Warrens are uncommon people (Ed died in 2006) who investigated the Amityville case. Sadly this film is humdrum gothic that clots the brain.
