Tape Tales of 2000&2001 + The Cape musings

Cleared out two tapes. One from 2000 and one from 2001. The 2000 tape begins with a ‘Cleopatra 2525’ ep ‘Mauser’s Day Out’ in which Sarge uses robot of all work Mauser as a sextoy – eewwww. This triggers his Betrayer programming to re-emerge and he rampages off. This has bad SFX, bad tracking and is plain bad. Hel discovers Voice’s link to Creegan and Sarge is horrible.

Next was a ‘Jack of All Trades’ ep ‘The Morning After’ in which Napoleon (played by Mini Me!) shows up. Jack and Em think they did it due to drugged wine and much crap takes place. Then came an ‘X Files’ ep ‘Invocation’ in which a boy vanishes off a pony ride and returns years later the exact same age. This had bad acting, Doggett glowering and was dull.

Then came a season 5 ‘Buffy The Vampire Slayer’ ep ‘Into The Woods’ in which Joyce is in hospital, Willow whines and Xander blusters. Dawn whines, Riley annoys and bores. Initiative idiots show up. Buffy finds out about Riley likes vamp whores. Riley has an obnoxious pity party. TPTB loved the loser. Riley makes it all Buffy’s fault. Xander berates Buffy some more. Riley finally leaves; the lazy ass didn’t even help the gang patrol. This was a terrible ep.

Then there was the season 2 ‘Angel’ ep ‘Reunion’ in which Angel hunts down Drusilla and the newly revamped Darla. The gang are unhelpful, there is exposition. Bernard from ‘Lost’ is an evil lawyer. Drusilla and Darla crash a Wolfram & Hart party. Angel locks the doors and leaves them to their murdering. The gang are appalled for some reason. The whole wham factor of Angel’s act was undercut by the copout in the next ep. This was okish.

Best Lines:
What’s the plan? Stand outside the door and glower?”

“People are going to die.”
“And yet somehow, I can’t seem to care.”

“You just walked away?”
“No, I walked to my car and then I drove away.”

Next we have the 2001 tape. It opened with the 1999 movie ‘Drop Dead Gorgeous’ in which teenage beauty queens compete to be the Sarah Rose American Teen Princess in murderous fashion in small town Minnesota. This film has mad parents, an Adam West cameo, horrible teenage girls, perv judges, eating disorders, mass vomiting, white trash body horror and musical numbers. This was moderately amusing even if it lacked genuine menace or unhinged glee.

Best Lines:
“If they ask you to take your top off, get the money first.”

“Are we on COPS?”

“Can one of you boys give me a ride home?”
“Don’t fall for it. She lives two trailers down.”

“This is exactly how I pictured it: choking on swan gas.”

“The swan ate my baby!”

Then came a season 5 ‘Buffy The Vampire Slayer’ ep ‘Forever’ in which Joyce is buried, the tracking is way off, Dawn makes it all about her. I hate Xander and Dawn. Was Angel really there? Dawn plans to raise her mother from the dead, Willow is reckless, Ben lurks and Glory’s idiot minions also lurk. Joel Grey of ‘Cabaret’ guest stars! Dawn throws a pity party and is so selfish; you want her to get a beat down. This bored.

Finally there was a season 2 ‘Angel’ ep ‘Disharmony’ in which there is more bad tracking. Wesley ‘running’ Angel Investigations is a joke. Harmony shows up to visit Cordelia – when did they become friends again? This was boring and why did Cordelia let Harmony go?

The Walking Dead’ season 3 trailer
A helicopter, singing, new characters, a prison, something really unexpected and a really bad US accent. This looks good. Fight the dead, fear the living.

The poster for ‘The Dinosaur Project’ looks good.

I am reading ‘The Moon and The Sun’.

Oz, The Great and Terrible’ trailer
James Franco as the Wizard of Oz? Words fail me. It looks okay though.

I like the sound of the potential new TV show ‘Incursion’

The Cape’ Quotes:
“I’m just wondering how this inarticulate class resentment translates into a specific course of action.”

“I killed your father. How can we get past that?”

The tagline for ‘The Cape’ ran: To clear his name, he must take another. That worked out well for him didn’t it?

‘The Cape’ promos
1) The ‘every kid wants their dad to a superhero’ line is naff. Vince is all: I will not rest until they see justice. But he spent a lot of time sitting on his ass moping. Not a good promo.

2) Vince trains with knives and Max declares: “I think you’re ready.” This looked cool but it is a shame we never found out Max’s real agenda.

3) This had oohh la la music over male gaze shots of Orwell. She has a face like an angry kitten. The “Where’s your cape?”, ‘”Drycleaners” exchange was funny. Didn’t like this promo.

4) This was another training montage promo. Why wasn’t Chess in any of these promos?
