Emily Thorne (Emily VanCamp of ‘Carriers’) arrives in the Hamptons seeking moral vindication. Via flashbacks and narration we learn her real name is Amanda Clarke, her late beloved father David was framed for treason by his friends and co-workers and that she is a billionaire with vigilante justice in mind.
The Hamptons are ruled by the Grayson clan led by Victoria and her cheating husband Conrad. Victoria’s BFF Lydia is banging Conrad and she was also David’s secretary and testified against him at his trial when he was convicted of complicity in the downing of a passenger jet. Emily does a cold stare and plots revenge on Lydia.
Loads and loads of characters are introduced. The rich ones and the working class townies. Emily sees her childhood friend Jack and her old dog Sammy and looks sad. But nothing and nobody will stop her. So Conrad and Lydia’s latest tryst goes horribly wrong.
Lydia gets her’s. Emily plots and the surly Nolan knows stuff. This was good, a wonderful mash up of ‘The Count of Monte Cristo’, ‘The OC’, ‘Veronica Mars’, ‘Hidden Palms’ and ‘Profit’.
So much soapy goodness to be revealed. Why did Victoria and Conrad destroy David? Why were Victoria and co outside David’s house when he was arrested? Why was Amanda in jail? Victoria had an affair?
“The mean girls table.”
“Tragically privileged spawn.”
“If your friends could see you now.”
“I’d probably get jumped.”
“No one wants this imperious cadre of toxic phonies to eat it more than yours truly.”
