Book two of the 'Collegia Magica' series. Anne de Vernase does not believe in magic but it has destroyed her family. Anne blames the hero of book one, Portier de Salvin-Duplais for her family's ruin. But Portier is the King's man and he has a summons ordering Anne to the royal court.
Anne finds the court in uproar. The Queen is fragile, the courtiers are plotting and the mage Dante is suspected of all sorts of terrible magic. Anne vows to uncover the truth that saw her family laid low and branded traitors and so thrusts herself into a web of magic, conspiracy and secrets. This is a wonderful and absorbing Renaissance fantasy.
Star Trek Mirror Universe: Rise Like Lions by David Mack
The Mirror Universe saga may be coming to an end with this wretched tale. Miles O'Brien, Memory Omega and Calhoun join forces to take down the Klingon/Cardassian Alliance. Bad people decide to be good guys, other people angst, people die, Picard becomes a leader via an ass pull deux ex machina, there are over-sexed hysterical women and it all comes to an awful contrived ending. This is not good, not good at all. It's not even campy bad, it is just bad.
