Burning Heresies: A Memoir Of Life In Conflict 1979-2020 by Kevin Myers Bitch ass disgraced 'reporter' Myers whines and never takes any responibility. Everyone is agin him. He hates everything and everyone. He has dodgy opinions. Very dodgy. He wrote a ruinous article and likes punching down. He whines about deep and shattering events in this largely irrelevant meoir which shows his truly horrifying ego. Myers rants in this seemingly unedited mess about women and Jews and how badly he was treated. He apologises for nothing and whines about the consequences of his own works and media drama. He caused serious offence and never once says sorry. This was a constant barrage of BS. By Rosemary Joyce This book about teen beauty queens is 36 years old! I learnt about this 6 book series in 'Paperback Crush' . This was teen soap written from multiple perspectives. Linda is the shy heroine whose boyfriend John is a drink driver, to the shock of Laurel Heights. There is no concept of patient confidentality. There is poisonous gossip and Linda is blamed for John drinking and driving. Mean girl Arlene tarnishes Linda as a bad person for beating Arlene in a beauty contest. She also tarnishes Linda's bff as a gutter slut. Mean girl Arlene wants to steal John from Linda and wears Laura Ashley to seduce him. Arlene is a conniving boyfriend thief. There is talk of yet another beauty contest. There are mental moments and slut shamning and dated attiudes. WTF is a private phone line? Laurel Heights High has a school newspaper that has a gossip column. Expectations need to be managed. Linda won a $500 scholarship. Wow. Dreams are not put on hold. Arlene is a little madam and there is race track drama among the adults. WTF is an honorarium. Nobody loves their community. There is a catfight, dire warnings and deranged teens in this completely ludicrous and totally not plausible but readable soap. There are wild rumours. Linda calls Arlene her friend. Arlene takes pride and pleasure in her crapulence. There are irate rage filled teens with terrible problems. There are dated references and Arlene has an enemy in her arch rival the evil August. There are pay phones and gossip and a cliffhanger and dreams and schemes in this okay drama. Best Lines: “The whole night had been like some horrible dream: John's automobile accident and her losing the Miss Crandall beauty conest.” “My son may be dying in there, and you come to me with this?” “Most boys appreciated the demure look.” “Joey could get scary sometimes.” “Any of you guys catch ol' Brian here looking at you funny in the showers?” “You want to take me on, punk?” “Johnson gets into some kind of fight about once a week! The guy is a maniac!” “Jealousy roared into her brain.” “Wouldn't be too thrilled about their newly appointed Miss Crandall brawling in a hospital room.” “A lot of corruption in the racing industry around here.” “Didn't want her.” “Wrong-really wrong.” “John Landon and his tacky apartment building.” “It's been a slice.” “John's AA nonsense.” “Once they've won – gotten their hopes up – it's much more fun to see them lose.” “Don't act like you deserve this” “Bad cup of yogurt?” “Disaster for her and her family.” “That hair bag, John Landon.” “He threw you over?” “Creepy heartthrob,” “Sudden malice.” “Her voice was kind.” “The county beauty pageant. If I win it'll lead to the regional circuit.” “Was there no end to Linda's concern for mankind?” “Only a crazy person would snort cocaine in a ladies room in a big department store.”
