Dangerous Liasions (1988)

Glenn Close, John Malkovich, Michelle Pfeffier, Uma Thurman, Keanu Reves and Peter Capaldi star in this take on a play which was based on an obscure novel. This whole film cost $14 million. There is a metal bath, a virtuous woman named de Tourvel, wigs, wig powdering and cleavage powdering.

2 thrilling dreadful nobles plot in pre revolutionary France. They are a marquise (Close) and a comte (Malkovich) do staring as Close parades around in dresses that look polyesther. There was a rival movie to this called 'Valmont' which nobody seems to have seen.

The comte is sleazy. Dresses are creased. The marquise and the comte make a wager. He plans to seduce de Tourvel who has strict morals. Have they nothing better to do with their time? Capaldi plays the comte's valet. There is a sneaky servant, the comte helps some poors to impress de Tourvel. There are ducks and geese but no dramatic escalation, yet. There is arch dialogue and things go badly wrong, eventually.

There is wrongdoing and defiant hedonism and Close is covered in freckles. Cecile (Thurman) is out of a convent and is tormented by the comte as is de Tourvel. How do they not all have rampant STDS? There is sexual harrassement. The compte puts 1 foot in the door, than breaks the door wide open and people are forced to deal with him.

There is gaslighting and violence in this specious film. A woman dies of the dying. The marquise ends up booed at the opera and Close acts out that her soul is on her face.

This UK film was very bad and utterly foul. Smug self important teens annoy and fake aliens. This was pretty uniquely horrible. Things are never right. This was nto particularly frightening. There are withdrawn idiots and disturbed teens.
