October Faction (2020) 1x01 + Good Omens 1x02 + Deadwater Fell 1x02 Reviewed

Presidio

This was another urban fantasy. A married pair of monster hunters are sad when grandpa dies and they have 2 snotty teenage children. The mother wears a bad wig and the family return to the family mcmansion. This was not a living creative form. This has no contentment, there are unfriendly locals, flashbacks and this is palpably dumb.

This causes no enthusiasm. The teens have an obsessive preoccupation with being annoying. This demonstrates no relevance or value. The mcmansion has scratches on the walls, more bad wigs are seen and people talk about octobers. What are octobers? Dad had a brother who died. Sunglasses are worn at a funeral. The grandmother shows up and she wants the house.

There is a monster detecting smartphone and talk of a seance and a monster. Stephen McHattie plays the dead grandpa in flashbacks. This was based on a comic I have no interest in reading.

Best Lines:

Make more of an effort this time.”

“What a total and horrific shock this must have been.”

“Can we stop pretending this is a big tragedy?”

“Married to a shut in.”

“Is sad, even if he won't show it.”

“Fancy ass bitch.”

~
The Book

He's not the messiah! He's a very naughty boy! The 4 Horsemen gather. This was boring medicore crap. Jon Hamm smugs. The characters assemble. Will Adam turn the world into a gigantic graveyard? The angel and demon get free of the consequences of their actions. There is no complexity. Adam's phone number ends in 666. There is no crack in reality with the impossible creeping through.

Best Lines:

“Something smells evil.”

“That'll be the Jeffrey Archer books.”

“It can't be that simple.”

~
Deadwater Fell 1x02

Kate is blamed for the fire and she has a funeral that is shunned. Meanwhile everyone turns out for the daughters funeral. There is a love declartion and an affair is admitted. A guy wanders around in his pants for no apparent reason. Did Tom do it? This was dull. Did Tom have the opportunity to do harm?

Best Line:

“Cutting her out like a cancer.”

Movie Reviews: Angel Of Mine + The Body Snatcher + Starred Up

Angel Of Mine (2019)

A jerk serves his wife divorce/full custody papers in front of their brat son. He has general dissatisfaction with her due to her mourning their dead baby. There is irresponsible behaviour, real accents, a decidely unpleasant son and this looks bleak.

The mother (Noomi Rapace) starts stalking a woman (Yvonne Strahovski of 'Chuck' and 'The Handmaid's Tale') and her daughter. She is sure the daughter is her not dead baby. Her ex (Luke Evans) is a huge jerk. This makes you recoil. Mourning is an unforgiveable egregious error for her. She's seen as a blight. Richard Roxburgh co-stars.

The mother is reckless and in despair, despite looking botoxed. The son is a brat. Her grief is casually dismissed. There is an air of inevitability. This was not hugely important. She's in emotional decline. This was a failed entity.

The mother is sure her baby daughter didn't die 7 years ago in a fire. A fire at a hospital would have lead to a huge payout I'm sure. She has uncaring co-workers and parents who want to lock her up. People are visibly angry at her for grieving. The mother is tearful and her ex is deeply contentious and hateful and acrimonious. Her parents are divisive and bitter.

There is a fight and it ends and yep, she was right all along! This is like a bad ep of 'Neighbours'. There are no apologies to her for the angry responses. Rancour and division is ignored, the ex is easily forgiven for his crap. This was a disaster. The other father stays with his crazy baby stealing wife?!?! This was a catastrophe.

Best Line:

“Offically in restraining order territory.”

~
The Body Snatcher (1945)

No.

~
Starred Up (2013)

A dull prison movie.

Glow Vs The Babyface Issue 3 Reviewed

The brat annoys. Ducks attack and nobody acts like it is the 80s. GLOW gets a new member. There is indiscipline. Why do people keep cosseting the brat? The brat's mother is a talebearer and Sam and co capitulate to the brat and her mother. Again, Ruth and Debbie barely feature. This was okay reassuring nostalgia.

Best Lines:

“No. That's it! I'm taking my earrings off!”

“Oh no, I know what that means...”

“I had a whole self-righteous speech prepared in my head.”

“I bet he just thought you looked like the type to get pregnant in high school.”

“God, I hope so.”

To Light The Way To Bed

Book Review: A Nest Of Nightmares, part 2

A Nest Of Nightmares by Lisa Tuttle, part 2

Tuttle is one of those writers who don't like being called horror writers despite writing horror.

The Other Mother

This was a significant failure. What's gesso? A wife and mother has perpetual resentment. The idiot whiny woman sees her children as an insurmountable problem.

Best Lines:

“Worn out with the effort of keeping a lid on her anger.”

“Lost whatever talent she once had.”

Need

This leaves you incredulous. What was it about? What was it for? Logic and meaning is a forlorn hope.

The Memory Of Wood

A whiny woman buys a chest. Bad stuff goes down. Why are all Tuttle's female characters so useless?

A Friend In Need

A woman encounters a face from the past who causes chilling implications. This was nice and ominious.

Stranger In The House

Rubbish.

Sun City

Another racist tale with no terrible finality.

The Nest

No blissful terror.
