Summer Of Night by Dan Simmons

This 1991 'horror' is done with faux seriousness but is a dreadful yawnsville. The characters have casual everyday misygony and there is an unbelievably lax attiude to child gun violence. Kids have no parental supervision. Kids sense an ill destiny. There is pages upon pages of padding. Many lives are seared by traumatic experiences in this knockoff of 'It'.

It's 1960 and nobody nonwhite seems to exist in this romanticised rural small town. The town has long been tormented by an evil bell or something. FFS. There is racism and incessant manipulative bullying and indifference to tragedy. There is no growing sense of menace, edgy tension or psychological terror. There are no dark blasphemies or suspence, mystery or discovery. This was pretty sorry and lacked artistic merit.

I have a feeling of abandonment by my ex. My ex's unresponsiveness hurts. I'm unacknowledged. Does he even know the pain he casually inflicted? My ex was uncommitted to me and not enthralled. I thought he was.

I'd try fruit balls with honey jelly and ghost chilli choc and creme brulee mousse chocolate and air dried salami with walnuts. I'd try caramel and almond tart as well as an apricot and apple tart.

There is seaweed butter?

On 'Hollyoaks': why does Sylver love Mercedes? Where did he come from? Why was he thinking of her in prison? How are they married? They're RELATED! She's on coke and he's an ex-con; no court would give them Max back. Sylver screams at Mercedes who makes a right show of herself. Syler shouts all his lines. Is Breda's his mother or did she steal him? Breda thinks her husband should have been happy that Goldie was pregnant with twins at 13?!?! Sylver didn't kill Breda's husband. She did. So is that what he went to jail for?

Sinead goes on a rant about Jane Austen. Mercedes made a show of herself in front of Max. How can 2 Brits just go to live in Greece? Mercedes lives in her self made hell. Why does Sylver loves Mercedes?!? Why does Liam?

Best Lines:

“You're back on the coke!”

“Mercy madness.”

“Posh people swooning over a man!”

Shaft (2019)

Samuel L. Jackson and Richard Roundtree star in this latest in the 'Shaft' franchise. A woman is increasingly volatile. Shaft is not a likeable man as he drives away his woman and baby in 1989. Regina Hall yells as does Titus Welliver. This welds the canon of the 2000 movie and the 1970s movies.

Shaft's son grows up and is in the FBI. This was giddiness and people have heightened elation in themselves. There are no amazing things as a terrible time is had. There are no penetrating insights and this was completely batty. There are no tension build ups just tedious normality and social evils. A boss carps. There are social constraints and people stay in shot looking quizzical.

Shaft Jnr aka JJ has a dodgy junkie pal who dies. There is a moral muddle. There is civil disorder and no moral living. This was non-PC. Shaft heaps vitriolic abuse on his son. Shaft doesn't like a lot of people. Shaft has profound self assurance. JJ wants to know who killed his pal Karim. This was delicious excess. Shaft is dispute ridden. JJ is reprimanded, scorned and ignored by his dad who is all distilled ferocity. JJ has seriousness of purpose.

Shaft loves intimidating displays. JJ never occupied a central position in his dad's emotional life. They get into scrapes. This was ephemeral. JJ is less favourably treated. This has no visceral appeal. Shaft has a sense of volatility and does ruthless violence. JJ faces a mountain of abuse. There is a club fight which is an unusually interesting sight.

There is puke and JJ throws away his job. There is a Trump reference. What's a pie dog? Shaft makes everything super dramatic. JJ holds onto his grudge forever. How did they get onto ropes to make their dramatic entrance into the baddies lair? A woman is in peril. Alexandra Shipp is useless. This was okay. The original Shaft is barely in this as JJ's grandfather.

Best Lines:

“Tainted community dick.”

“$10!”

“For what?”

“Even I have a gun! And I live in a nice part of Brooklyn!”

“Drughouse!”

“All cash sublet.”

“Farmhouse sink.”

“Cheap over the counter erectile cream.”

“You can't throw guns out an open window! Kids live up here!”

“Brothers Watching Brothers.”

“Black James Bond.”

“Front line Harlem. 80s.”

“Building our new youth centre.”

“Men don't apologise. That's a trap they set for us.”

“Bust some heads open.”

“Lemon tower.”

“Dressed like Morpheus from 'The Matrix'.”

“Yiphee.”

“You know him?”

“Unfortunately.”

“Simple bitch.”

“Ghetto crack cartel.”

“I'm done working for The Man!”

“Only you could be a worse father than I was.”

Communion (1988)

Christopher Wlaken chews the scenery as nutter Whitley Strieber. No.

Best Lines:

“Was there an owl in here last night?”

“Does it hurt when I touch it?”

“YES!”

~
Apollo 11 (2019)

This was an enjoyable moving experience that showcases the moonlanding via footage that was lost for decades. It also makes you realise how much Neil Armstrong looked like Nigel Bennett from 'Forever Knight'. It's 50 years since Armstrong took his one small step. This is filled with previously unseen footage. The footage is astonishing: the Saturn V rocket being moved to the launch pad and the liftoff induce awe. This is something worth seeing as it has epochal heft.

~
Creed II (2018)

People take the consequences of the decisions made in 'Rocky IV'. I've never seen 'Creed'. 'Rocky IV' was the very, very worst of times. Drago and his son live in Ukraine. People dwell on personal fallibility and crushing irredeemable mistakes. Is his name really Adonis Creed? What became of Mr T's character or Mason Dixon or Tommy Gunn? Drago wants his son Viktor to fight Adonis Creed. Drago is sad and unloved.

There is indecision about life choices and the horrific consequences of 80s excess go on. Why are Rocky and Apollo Creed's pictures on the WBC belt? Nobody objects to the deeply unpleasant match of Creed Jnr and Drago Jnr? There is mumbling and self-reproach. There are horrendous events and appalling history. The Dragos life seems unflinchingly bleak. There is wry world weariness and amorality and morally deficient people.

There are strange and cruel decisions. 'Rocky IV' is seared in the consciousness of eveyrone. Adonis becomes a father. There is absurdist logic and disconsolate women and soul crushing nihilism. There is overwhelming regret that plagues people and people are unable to live full lives. There is no joy and fulfilment. Rocky's irrevocably hopeful. The ex Mrs Drago shows up, she has a rich new husband but her hair hasn't changed. There is no moral reasoning just capricious egotism.

Life steadfastly refuses to co-operate with a happy ending. Scurrilous goings on go on with irrationality. Drago bitterly complains. There is a training montage. Why is Adonis' wife singing his ring entrance? The ex Mrs Drago is a rank person. What'll become of Viktor now? Rocky's useless son has a son of his own now. Why are people always talking to gravestones?

Tessa Thompson, Phylicia Rashard, Dolph Lungren, Florain “Big Nasty” Munteanu, Brigitte Nielsen and goob Milo Ventmiglia star.

Best Lines:

“What's with the hair?”

“I combed it.”

“Why she agreed to marry you I do not know.”

“Building a legacy of his own.”

“I lose everything: country, respect, wife.”

“Raised in hate.”

“A lot of bad history.”

“Who wants it more?”

Triple 9 (2016)

Disgusting criminals swear and yell. This was trashy and full of terrible people with hideous personalities. WTF is going on? I couldn't tell. This reeked.

Best Line:

“Devil's dick.”

A Time To Stand

The awesome fleet has been battered and decimated. O'Brien scathingly condemns the war. Bashir is angry about their horrible life circumstances. Social outsider Garak whines and is dismissive. There is apocalyptic violence and mayhem making by the Dominion. Garak does pointless rambling and desperate attention seeking in supremely irritating fashion.

There is no searing purpose. Sisko does moral authority. I question Worf's relevance on this show. There is chronic uncertainty. The Dominion have DS9. Dukat does a smirking performance. There are usurpations of common decency. Dukat's alliance with the Dominion which he negligently adopted is leading to disastrous results.

People have brazen determination and make emotional observations. Admiral Ross shows up. The uniform is not flattering to him. The books ruined Ross. Weyoun is a toxic example of bipartisanship. He has aloofness and arrogance. Ross gives Sisko a mission in the captured Jem'Hadar attack ship. O'Brien is irritated. The Jem'Hadar ship has no viewscreen, no chairs, no food and no sickbay.

Garak's runaway verbosity bores. Dukat has craven indifference. Odo has good intent. Kira knows how little value the Dominion attaches to her life. This was okay but with shonky dated VFX. Things go wrong.

Best Lines:

“Only 14 ships made it back to our lines.”

“14? Out of a 112!?!”

“The Federation collapses and Earth becomes another conquered planet under the Dominion.”

“Afraid we'll take the station away from you again?”

Rocks And Shoals

This is ep 2 of 6. The Dominion/Cardassian allaince is not an untroubled friendship. The captured Jem'Hadar ship crashes on a planet in a dark matter nebula. Another ship has already crashed here. Phil Morris guest stars. It's odd to see sunlit scenes on this show. A dying Vorta plots. A horrendous tragedy unfolds. Kira wears a silly plastic belt. Jake annoys.

The shockingly nasty Vorta has a sinister edge. Jake betrays his ineptitude. Actors seem to be sweating off their alien makeup in the sunlight. Things disastrously escalate out of control. A deadly conflict leads to the Vorta dispatching Jem'Hadar to their doom. People have fixed ideological positions. Jake is supremely irritating and he and the Vorta are self-indulgent nonsense merchants.

A Vedek stages a protest. There are parlous situations all round. Kira exudes misery from every pore. The Vorta has shocking disregard. The Jem'Hadar will never please thier 'gods' no matter how hard they try. This was okay.

Best Lines:

“Everything's off line!”

“We will hold this world for the Dominion until we die.”

“They're here and they're not leaving.”

“What the inside of a Vorta looks like.”

~
Butterfly 1x03

Vicky is arrested, she ran off to Boston after stealing money and ditching her daughter and forging a consent form. The daughter is sad she's always being ignored in favour of the attention seeker. Vicky ignores her family and is unrepentant. The attention seeker is selfish and attention seeking. Why is the husband being blamed? Vicky is a drama queen who is guilty of emotional abuse. Vicky screams and shrieks. The attention seeker gets everything due to attention seeking. This was mediocre. Vicky gets away with her crap.

~
Ambush

There is a prophecy. The sisters have boring issues. This was trite and weak and ridiculously inept. Hunter annoys. Niko screams and throws hissy fits. The sisters intend the consequences of their acts.

Best Line:

“Evil is upon us!”

~
Visions And Omens

This tv show is based on the infamous incident when a man deemed a vicious nutcase and his followers deemed damned memebers of society who refused to buy into what the culture held to be self evident. The opening credits are sad. Michael Shannon, Taylor Kitsch, Rory Culkin, Melissa Benoist, Camryn Manheim and John Leguizamo star. Ruby Ridge takes place

Public discontent with big government grows. People committed the sins of being intellectual curmudgeons. David ran an alleged idyllic church. They defied societal expectations but the ATF inflamed the situation. The ATF have cold distain for those at Ruby Ridge and those at Waco. Ruby Ridge was covered up, how did TPTB get away with being hostile and dismissive about killing a woman and her son? The ATF showboat and this ep was not overcrowded with incident. This was okay.

Best Lines:

“They're coming for me.”

“They've got tanks, helicopters and troops. For what? For a family that lives by themselves in the woods?”

We are at fault.”

~
Nothing's Shocking

This absurdity was not giddly engaging. Alfred is servile to Bruce. A hand puppet strikes. Gordon is dumb and people have an inability to contribute in any positive way. Various comic baddies lurk. This was poo. Interest is forever lost. This was underachieving and not worthy. Bruce will in future terrorise his Robins into submission.
