Scary Books

SS-GB 1x04 Reviewed

This was not morally complicated or bracingly vivid. Nazis have been blown up. Archer continues his collaborative friendship with Huth. This squanders every opportunity presented to it. Archer has no moral anxieties. There are no ominous implications now the Nazis are ‘cracking down’. There is no underlying fear. This has not made a favourable impression. There are calamitous consequences to the bomb. Archer is not a man of morals or a profound believer. This is not a dark existential tale. This was all ineptitude. Archer has no deep concerns.

The significant negative impact of Nazis is belatedly effective. Woods lurks. I’m waiting for fateful consequences or sinister implications. This was terribly dismal. Archer is not shame spiralling. It’s all curiously unmoving. There is no cesspit of political panic or moral panic. Nazis seem insufficiently ruthless. This was not affecting. Huth claims not to be a Nazi and has a hint of disapproval of their nightmare mindset. This was unpromising.

Why is Archer so passionately loyal? People have evil thoughts. Huth makes enticements to Archer. Whether they’re sexual or not is menacingly unclear. Sylvia shows up again. Things head toward inevitable ruin. Barbara and her fatal dalliance with Archer bores. There is a mention of Ambassador Kennedy. Archer is shockingly callous. Barbara proposes and the plot differs from the book. This was mmmm.

Best Lines:
“Artistic photo business.”

“Funny, huh?”
“Not very.”

“Mean efficient brains.”

“It is a no.”

“He hates the right people.”

Book Review: Winter Of The Gods

Winter Of The Gods by Jordanna Max Brodsky
This good sequel to ‘The Immortals’ sees the petty and cruel Greek gods wander modern day NY. The cruel, capricious gods face a new/old enemy and make frustrating decisions and one feels evolving resentment at the ending.

Best Lines:
“Maybe even evil cult initiates had to sleep sometime.”

“Does that sound reasonable to you?”

“Rather confused genealogical relationship-”

“Clearly expecting to be listened to.”

“Cultic practice.”

“And so it went for untold centuries.”

“The ordeal pit.”

Chilli & lemon flavour hummus chips - good.
Zesty lime chocolate - okay.
Corn on the cob with a lime & ginger dressing - good.

Neighbours have had all the glass taken out of their green house.

Houseguest whines about shopping bags and flings water around, blares music and leaves doors open. Is rude when offered a lift somewhere and whines about the ’cold’, his partner and his old job.  He malingers, makes noise and mess in the kitchen, is thankless, leaves doors open and mistakes an egg poaching pot for a frying pan and has a hissy fit. He whines. He makes mess and noise on purpose and whines about a job he hasn’t had in 30 plus years. He goes on about us needing a new fridge (we don’t). Oh shut up. He makes mess and tells us to “smile”. He blares radio too loudly, stole a sock and didn’t bring in recycle bin. He makes a production out of seeing a doctor, declares he is unfit, with “anxiety”, wants windows open, then shut, shuts doors, ignores the laundry we do, whines and buys stinky crab meat and sets off the smoke alarm.

‘Buffy The Vampire Slayer’ is 20 years old - think of the John Tesh and vamp nail polish references And the 90s clothes (thigh high satin sheath dresses).

Saw some of ‘Once Upon A Time’ - there are 2 Regina’s, Henry has a girlfriend and where is Ruby? Rumpy looks like he has a new hairdo and some botox. WTF?

Best Line:

I may review ‘Lucy’, ‘Shades of Blue’ season 2 and ‘The Blacklist: Redemption’.

Never saw ‘Blood Brothers’.

The Robert Kelly interview invasion was funny.

I saw a magpie and a squirrel fighting.

On ‘Neighbours’: fake ‘Dee’ and her dubious purpose doesn't invoke darker themes. Toadie is stupid. Nobody has decency or personal ethics. The multi-narrative bores. Paige needs to leave and take her shameful excess of sluttiness with her. Mark bores. Steph tries well-worn patience. How many stalkers has she had? Mark makes moral judgements. Steph is utterly untrustworthy and a liar. Elly rages. Susan sticks her nose in.

On ‘Hollyoaks’: Mercedes and Scott taunt the unhappy miserable James. Warren plans to take the baby off Sienna. Scott is disgusting. James finally learns about the credit card scam. Poor grievously wronged openly hated James.

Movie Reviews: A New Hope + 2 others

Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977)
This movie is kinda annoying and naff and bad. Bad acting, bad writing and things are said that were retconned in sequels/prequels. The oft-vilified Darth Vader sounds wrong. There is Peter Cushing, Alec Guinness and bizarre English accents. Darth Vader makes peoples collars too tight. And the Death Star plans were on data tapes. Who are Sand People? The sight of the burnt skeletons of Luke’s aunt and uncle are once seen, never forgotten. Luke shrugs off their deaths and lips off to people. The Special Edition VFX are obviously tacked on. The alien jazz band is something else. This has good music, Leia is shrill and this is a kids movie.

Best Lines:
“You fought in the Clone Wars?”

“Before the dark times.”

“He betrayed and murdered your father.”

“You served my father in the Clone Wars.”

“Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi, you’re my only hope.”

“Technological terror.”

“Your sad devotion to that ancient religion.”

“Never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy.”

“I grow tired of asking this.”

“Why are we still moving towards it?”

Deep Blue Sea (1999)
It is righteous to forsake and scorn this.
