Trailers, Quotes and Stuff

'The Following’ 1x13 trailer
Shut up Joe.

‘Scary MoVie’ TV spot
Charlie Sheen’s face scares me.

‘The Facility’ trailer
A drug trial goes wrong, maybe I’ll check this out.

‘Doctor Who’ 7x09 promo
This haunted house tale looks good.

Michael Bay directed Meat Loaf’s ‘I’d Do Anything For Love’ music video. That explains a lot.

I am reading ‘Tempting Fate’.

Reviews of: ‘Night Pilgrims’, ‘A Soldier’s Duty’, ‘Magic Rises’, ‘An Officer’s Duty’ and ‘Kitty In The Underworld’ forthcoming.

Possible new shows ‘No Place’, ‘Helix’, ‘Orion’, ‘Sojourn’ and ‘Infinity’ sound interesting.

‘Bones’ Quote:
“French doesn’t make murder any classier.”

‘South Park’ Quote:
“Nobody feels any shame anymore.”

‘Rocky Balboa’ Quotes:
“Get therapy will you.”

“If he tries to dig down against Balboa, he’s going to find out that he doesn’t have a big enough shovel.”

‘The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole aged 13 ¾’ (book) Quotes:
“We drove through Glasgow at 11 a.m. in the morning and yet I counted twenty-seven drunks in one mile.”

“I intended to stay in the car and read Glencoe, but because of all the drunks staggering around I reluctantly followed them inside.”

“I went to the shops and bought packet of Vesta chow mein and a butterscotch Instant Whip for our dinner, so Bert ate a decent meal for once.”

Arthur C. Clarke quote:
“Two possibilities exist: either we are alone in the universe or we are not. Both are equally terrifying.”

‘Person of Interest’ unaired pilot quotes:
“And I’d say that trusting an alcoholic ex-government hit man is a greater challenge than trusting a middle-aged cripple.”

“It turns out ‘bearded loner’ covers a surprising high percentage of the homeless population.”

“All those people with no idea what was coming for them.”

Book Reviews: Interstellar Pig + Super Heroes part 2

Interstellar Pig by William Sleator
From 1987, Barney and his useless parents are on holiday. Three strangers move in next door and want Barney to hang out with them and play a mysterious board game. Barney soon realises he’s caught up in a mysterious conflict. This was okay but dated.

Super Heroes edited by Rich Horton, part 2

Super. Family
A superhero has to deal with a rebellious daughter and his resentful wife. This was okay.

The Strange Desserts of Professor Natalie Doom
A mad scientist’s daughter bakes her way to success. This was good.

Best Line:
“Most people believe he died in his burning lab, shouting defiance at the National Guardsmen trying to control the Hydra in the front yard.”

A retired never was villain is ordered to investigate the death of a superhero and uncovers family secrets in the process. This was good.

How is a superhero born? This was creepy.

A retired superhero’s grand-daughter precipitates trouble. This was mediocre.

The Los Angeles Women’s Auxiliary Superhero League
Three vapid LA types form a superhero club. This was okay.

Wonjjang and the Madman of Pyongyang
A South Korean superhero vs a North Korean supervillain. This is way too long.

Movie Review: The Bay

The Bay (2012)
Barry Levinson directed this found footage horror story. A ‘journalist’ pieces together footage to reveal what happened on July 4 2009 in a small seaside resort town. Sure this has bad acting and cheap make up but it also has eco horror, boils, vomiting, the cute Dr Abrams (Stephen Kunken), a parasite outbreak, screaming, killer sea lice, an official cover up and an utterly abandoned town. This was good.

Best Lines:
“He actually used to run a vacuum-cleaner shop. And then one day he just up and got everyone to vote for him for Mayor.”

“I think it’s every girl’s dream to be Miss Crustacean.”

“He would actually end up treating over 350 patients over the course of that day. And he would die later that night.”

“Are you making this up? This looks photo-shopped.”

“I’ve got a town full of dead bodies.”
“A small town.”

Revolution 1x04 + Doctor Who 7x08 + GCB 1x06 Reviewed

The Plague Dogs
Charlie whines, Maggie has flashbacks to her children and the gang of idiots stumble across a pack of mean dogs. Monroe and his over gelled hair blathers back-story about Ben and Rachel is stoic. Miles wants to run out on Charlie, this revolution shouldn’t be televised.

Danny is blank faced and stupid, Nate pops up again, a storm blows, Miles is the king of the pig people and a clumsy explanation is given as to why people do not go to sea anymore. The mean dogs owner shows up. Captain Neville pontificates, someone is stabbed and dies, Miles is a gross thing and Charlie is useless. Duct tape still exists and Miles has a big secret regarding Rachel. This was awful.

Cold War
A Russian submarine, the Doctor, Clara and an angry Ice Warrior collide at the North Pole in 1983. The Ice Warrior shouts and over menaces, Clara is flippant, the Doctor yells, the Ice Warrior has a silly CGI face and David Warner, Liam Cunningham and Tobias Menzies are wasted in their roles. This was okay.

Best Lines:
“I thought I found a mammoth.”
“It’s not a mammoth.”

“It’s a big green man from Mars.”

“Songs of the Red Snow.”

“I could kiss you.”
“If you insist.”

“My people live.”

“Hostile Action Displacement System.”

Turn The Other Cheek
Carlene and Ripp are renewing their vows for the 17th time with a ‘Gone With The Wind’ theme. Sharon wants to be chief bridesmaid but Amanda is made chief bridesmaid instead. So Sharon embarks on a plan of sabotage. Meanwhile Blake wants another baby whilst Cricket just wants to bust the chambermaids union.

Heather crawls back to her horrid ‘friends’, Luke is a jerk, Carlene gets shot on a hunting trip and there is an OTT wedding. As ever I wonder why Amanda puts up with these thankless people. This was okay.

Best Lines:
“The burning of Atlanta barbeque reception.”

“All you have to do is read the vows. I’ll provide your horse and the Confederate uniform.”

“Blake wants to up end my agenda.”
“Ripp likes to do that sometimes. Takes some getting used to.”

“Buffet of death.”

“It was in Carlene’s freezer for the last 17 years in an empty box that was supposed to have the top tier of her wedding cake.”

Person of Interest Season 1 Review, part 6

Many Happy Returns
Jessica’s fate is finally revealed. A waitress is in peril from her crazy US Marshal husband. Finch has an infuriating tendency to keep secrets. Reese and Finch converse in creepy monotones. Reese deals with a man who has indifference and brutal contempt towards his wife. Carter talks too much and flashbacks show what promoted Reese’s descent into alcoholic homelessness and that Finch has secrets. This was good.

Best Lines:
“They were living with the person who would eventually kill them.”

“Guys who hide who they really are until they get home.”
“What will you do Mr Reese?”
“Show him what a real monster looks like.”

“Maybe you can explain the wisdom of antagonising an entire law-enforcement agency.”

“Leave the laptop now Harold and get out.”

“Knowing isn’t always a blessing.”

“I can’t reach him or stop him.”

No Good Deed
Reese follows Finch. Carter is suspicious of Fusco. Reese asks how the Machine communicates with Finch. It seems that Finch has a contingency plan. The duo spy on an idiot man in peril who works in a NSA listening station. Flashbacks show Alicia and Nathan had secrets. Finch hasn’t been entirely honest and Reese uncovers a secret of Finch’s. This was good and twisty. What is Sibilance? Why did Finch use Nathan as a front? Where is the Machine?

Best Lines:
“Oh, I really wish you hadn’t let him do that, Mr Reese.”

“This is a mystery you do not want to solve.”

Fire Wall
A psychologist (Amy Acker of ‘Dollhouse’, ‘Angel’ and ‘Cabin in the Woods’) is in peril, an obvious hint is overlooked, Fusco wants to take down HR, Zoe shows up again, Alicia follows Finch, Donnelly tries to take down Reese and there are revelations and a twist as the first season comes to a cliff hanging end.

This was okay. Reese refers to Finch as a friend, Donnelly’s task force are idiots who think Reese is malignant, Alicia annoys, Finch shows off his hacking skills, there is a car chase, a former villain returns, people die and questions are raised over Nathan’s death. I can’t wait for season 2.
