Scary Books

Stuff and More Stuff

I am reading 'The Best Horror of the Year Volume Three'.

I hope to read 'Magebane', 'Bedbugs' and maybe 'The Twilight of Lake Woebegotten' and the 'Hexslinger' books at some point.

'Grim Night' trailer
So this is a trailer for an unbought script and it looks really good. If this script is bought and made, I'd check out the end result.

'Fringe' 4x05 promo
I am sick of Walter and his mad act.

'Bedbugs' book trailer

'The Secret Circle' 1x07/1x08 promos
Cassie being stupid and Jake the show killer, I can't take  much more.

'Revenge' 1x07 promo
Soap, soap and more soap.

Angel & Faith Issue 3 Review

Live Through This Part Three
When did the art get so ugly? Faith asks Angel if he wants to be human and he does not mention his brief turn as a human during 'After The Fall' for some reason. There's a mention of the Ley Line War of '78 and slayers brawl with football hooligans.

Pearl and Nash worked with Angel at some point which is tired, how many minions did Angelus have? Faith makes a decision. This was good. Far better than 'After The Fall' and the storyline intrigues.

Best Lines:
"There's always an apocalypse."
"Actually there isn't."

The Secret Circle 1x06 Review

This was a terrible ep. Cassie's granny has zero reaction to the news there is a new Circle. Nick's never before mentioned bro Jake shows up to annoy. Cassie never listens to anyone when they try to tell her about her magic, she's always being stupid and storming off. But of course she is special and her lineage goes back to the beginning of witchcraft. Oh vomit.

Nick's wake is in drunk Ethan's bar, classy. Faye's mean. Jake is tied to the Circle through his bloodline. Witch hunters are in town and they burn symbols into grass and wave daggers at the Circle. Why don't the witch hunters just whip out a Desert Eagle and shoot the witches?

Faye's heartless, Jake annoys, Melissa tries to act sad and Diana is a snot. Cassie is manipulated by Jake because she is dumb. Granny gives Cassie the family crystal, vomit. Jake can't act and is a mean thug, naturally Cassie is hurling herself at him.

Blackwell is mentioned, I presume he is Cassie's dad. Charles feels guilt over drowning Nick yet setting fire to Amelia was no biggie for him. Why is Cassie always so stupid? Ethan tells Diana that Cassie and Adam are written in the stars like he and Amelia were. Which is pretty disrespectful to Adam's mother. Has Adam's mother even got a name? Does Ethan even notice that she is dead? He is too busy brooding over Amelia.

Jake's a witch hunter, no surprise. Diana dumps Adam. Everyone loves Cassie. The lead witch hunter is the dude who was Mr Argent on 'Teen Wolf' and he still can't act. Oh get lost Argent and take Jake and the whole witch hunter plot arc with you.

Best Lines:
"Bad things happen when you mess with fate."

"What happened?"

"Hometown parasite returns."

"You can't spend the rest of your life lying on your bedroom floor listening to depressing music."
"It's been two days Faye."

Supernatural 6x22 Reviewed

The Man Who Knew Too Much
This has to be the worst 'SPN' finale ever, even worse then the dreadful season 2 or 4 ones. Sam spends ages being mental hanging out with a fake character who cannot act. Nobody does anything about Castiel or Crowley until the last three minutes of the ep but by then Castiel has gone full tilt crazy and it is too late.

WTF was this crap? Why was Sam's trip to hell so much worse than Dean's? Why is 3/4 of this ep some bizarre Sam fanfic? How did TPTB make Castiel going evil so boring? When did Crowley became boring? Two reoccurring Angels die in this ep and I don't care plus how did Sam sneak up on Castiel with the Angel killing knife anyhow? This was AWFUL.

Best Lines:
"I'm so sorry."
"Not as sorry as you're gonna be."

"You seem even more constipated than usual."

Book Review: The Amateur Cracksman

The Amateur Cracksman by E.W. Hornung
The classic Victorian tales of Raffles, Test cricketer by day and gentleman thief by night. Ably assisted by his very close friend Bunny, the duo are a Victorian crime wave in this frothy yet dark wonderful read.

The Ides of March
After gambling himself into penury Bunny looks up his old school friend Raffles for aid. Raffles who turns out to be as broke as Bunny offers assistance. So the duo burgle a jewelery store. Bunny who cannot fathom the concept of getting a job joins the more experienced Raffles in his secret life of crime. This was good.

A Costume Piece
Raffles and Bunny plan to rob a diamond merchant however their target is neither as drunk or as stupid as he lets on and their robbery goes violently awry. However Raffles skills with accents and costumes saves the day, just about. This was good.

Gentlemen and Players
Raffles' skills at cricket gets the duo an invite to a country estate. They plan to burgle their hosts, naturally. However a rival pack of burglers and Raffles nemesis Mackenzie of Scotland Yard are already in residence. This was good.

Le Premier Pas
Raffles tells Bunny of how he committed his first crime. This was okay.

Wilful Murder
When Raffles fence uncovers Raffles real identity, Raffles decides to murder the potential blackmailer. Bunny goes along with it as he does everything else Raffles comes up with. However the murder attempt is not as simple as they planned. This was good.

Nine Points of the Law
Raffles and Bunny are hired to steal back a stolen Velasquez painting. It all gets very complicated. This was good.

The Return Match
One of the burglers from 'Gentlemen and Players' has escaped Dartmoor. He ends up in Raffles home demanding assistance. The duo have to help because Mackenzie of the Yard is right outside. This was good.

Best Line:
"In a dense fog on the moor yesterday good old Crawshay made a bolt for it, and got away without a scratch under heavy fire. All honor to him, I agree, a fellow with that much grit deserves his liberty."

The Gift of the Emperor
Raffles and Bunny go on a cruise to steal a fabulous pearl. However this time Raffles has reached too high and Mackenzie of the Yard has them to rights. This is okay and the ending is sad. Poor devoted Bunny is again a victim of Raffles awesome selfishness.

Best Line:
"Why should I work when I could steal?"

"Got your gun?"
"Got your shooter?"
"Then follow me."

"I've one o'these for you,...only not such a long one."
