“That’s extremely very not good.”
Haven’t seen ‘Kick Ass’ or ‘Iron Man 2’ yet because I’m not interested. Just like I wasn’t interested in ‘Pandorum’, ‘Terminator: Salvation’, ‘District 9’, ‘GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra’ or ‘Transformers 2’. They just look bad.
The Shadow Queen by Anne Bishop
The 7th in the ‘Black Jewels’ saga is a sequel to ‘The Invisible Ring’. The land of Dena Nehele needs to be restored so Theran Grayhaven, a descendant of the hero and heroine of ‘The Invisible Ring’ asks for help. Dean Nehele needs a Queen who knows Protocol, the code of honour and lives by the Old Ways.
Cassidy is sent to Dena Nehele to rule and to remake the land, which is all but decimated after centuries of rule by corrupt Queens But her task is not easy especially as the shallow Theran is unimpressed by the Queen chosen to rule. She’s not pretty or powerful enough in his opinion and he undermines her rule ignoring the good work she does to repair the damaged land.
This is very good, the realms are healing after the corrupt villains were swept away but repairing the social, mental and physical damage caused by centuries of sadistic misrule is not easy. But it will be done. This is a welcome return to form after the disappointments of ‘Dreams Made Flesh’ and ‘Tangled Webs’.
The Ectoplasmic Man by Daniel Stashower
When Harry Houdini is accused of espionage, Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson have to clear his name. In doing so the trio are plunged into a morass of blackmail, illusions and derring do. This is a wonderfully fun Holmes story.
The Fifth Man
Don receives a near fatal injury when an investigation goes wrong. Charlie half assed the math due to being selfish, yet again. Amita and Robin take up screen time. Liz and Nikki make it all about them. Colby acts ‘tough’. David gets on his high horse and Alan seems unconcerned except when blaming Charlie for Don getting stabbed.
The team track down the baddie responsible and uncover a conspiracy. Charlie sort of admits he messed the math up on purpose; Alan seems to pretend he didn’t hear that admission. Charlie solves the crime and confronts the baddie. Don wakes up and gets several Hello Kitty gift baskets. This was good.
“You were too busy playing with your Wii weren’t you?”
“Don’s in the hospital, breathing through a tube.”
Let No Man Put Asunder
Nobody asked Marcie what she saw in her flashforward. A homeless man is killed for no apparent reason. Noh can’t act. Olivia shows she has no decorum by flirting with Lloyd, following him home and making out with him. Charlie is a moron. Jericho is up to something and Aaron is tasked to find out what as he plans to go Rambo on them.
What does Noh see in Zoey? Janis is pregnant, but who is the father? Who are Janis and Marcie working for? Dyson Frost of the really stupid name abducts Noh. Zoey has bad taste in wedding dresses. This was good but Olivia and her hair extensions annoy.
My Bloody Valentine
A couple eat each other to death. Sam, Dean and Castiel look up Cupid who is actually a Cherub, third class for answers. Cupid didn’t cause it so who did? Why Famine of course, the Horseman is in town and he’s hungry.
Castiel starts eating fast food, Sam craves demon blood and Dean just despairs as the creepy creepy Famine makes people hunger. This was very good but did they get Famine’s ring or not? And aren’t the Four Horseman of the Apocalypse supposed to travel in a pack? John and Mary were ordained as a couple according to Cupid? Well that’s just stupid.
“Something in life is always going to keep us apart: work, family, sleep.”
“You mean the little flying fat kid in diapers?”
“They’re not incontinent.”
“A cupid has gone rogue and we have to stop him before he kills again.”
“Great will be the Horseman’s hunger for he is hunger.”
“This whole town is just going to eat, drink and screw itself to death?”
“A swarm of locusts in stretch pants.”
Walter responds to Peter running away by getting high, he has about as much judgment as Towlie. Olivia shows up with her niece Ella and leaves her with Walter, the high child snatching experimenter on children guy. Olivia leaves and takes her bad judgment with her and Walter tells Ella a story that has a lot of parallels with seasons 1&2 so far.
In his story Olivia a noir PI is looking for Peter Bishop. Broyles sings. Gene has polka dots. Walter invented bubble gum, hugs, rainbows and singing corpses and Peter has a glass heart. Olivia is chased by creepy Watchers. Nina is evil and talks to an animated William Bell via the dimensional window. It’s an interesting story and Walter acknowledges the damage he’s done to his ‘son’ and how Peter may never forgive him. Ella doesn’t like the sad ending to the story and comes up with her own happy ending where Peter forgives Walter and dances with Olivia. Which version will play out in the show?
Astrid takes Walter back to his house and an Observer watches Walter, ominously. Something bad is going to happen. This was good.
Does Astrid know the truth about Peter? Where is Peter? What was with the ominous Observer? Walter really doesn’t like Massive Dynamic or William Bell does he?
“I was roughed up quite a lot as a child.”
“She only calls when it’s important or when she gets lost.”
“He steals children’s dreams and he replaces them with nightmares.”
“It’s too late Walter; there are some things you can’t undo.”
“The boy has not returned and I do not believe Dr Bishop remembers my warning.”
