Supernatural Season 5 Ep 11 Review

Sam, Interrupted

The pair go undercover in a mental hospital. After their undercover gig in a prison they’ve learned nothing. They get committed by telling the truth about themselves to a shrink.

Sam patronises Dean again. Patients are dying in the nut house. A doctor annoys. There is bad editing and the fact the brothers are “dangerously co-dependant” and do have hens in the skirting board is brought up in an unsubtle manner.

A wraith is on the loose. Sam whines like someone off “My Super Sweet 16’. Sam has rage issues and shows some aggressive lunatic behaviour. This was boring.

Best Line:
“You build your own hell but I gave you the legos.”

Heroes Season 4 Ep 16 Review

The Art of Deception

Samuel’s followers are a tiny bit upset he dropped a town into a sinkhole. There is lots of lens flare. Gretchen puts up with the self obsessed Claire. Janice doesn’t know who Sylar is. Peter forgets all about Nathan as he decides only Sylar can save Emma.

Claire never goes to class, Peter never goes to work, Lauren annoys, Noah is a murderous liar (again) and Samuel has a minion shot up the carnival and frames Noah. Lydia’s killed, Lauren and her out of control hair extension is shot and Claire keeps defending her father.

Sylar self justifies. Matt finally defeats Sylar only for Peter to try and undo it because he is selfish and stupid. Why didn’t Matt just shoot Sylar in the head instead of rein acting Poe on him? How much margarine does Sylar have on his head? Why did Emma join Samuel? Why did Lauren call Tracy? This was dull and with a plot that can only be called infantile.

Flashforward Ep 12 Review

What’s stranger then seeing Gene Hunt miming to ‘Uptown Girl’? Learning that Aaron was in jail for manslaughter, which has never been mentioned before. Some friend Mark is to him. Aaron was in jail and started brawls. You do not mess with him and his glued on beard. Aaron learns that Mike, Tracey’s alleged friend, is an enemy. Tracey is abducted by Jericho and shipped off in a box. So Aaron and his weird beard beats Mike up.

Demetri tells Zoey about Mark possibly killing him. Zoey goes into full on snot mode. Janis has baby rabies. Tracey drinks. Lloyd is obnoxious, no change there. Lloyd reveals that he knows who D Gibbons is. Mark does have his job back despite being “frequently stupid”. Vogel has an agenda. The annoying blonde criminal returns. Mark ignores Aaron and Mark’s gun vanishes from lock up. This was good.

Best Lines:
I thought we were playing outrageous accusations.”

“You’re going to get us both killed.”
“You first.”

Trailers of the Day

The Tudors’ Season 4 Trailer
This looks good. Katherine Howard really comes across as a slapper though.

There’s Nothing Out There’ trailer
A cheesy 80’s looking spoof of 80’s slasher/monster movies. Looks funny though.

Going Postal’ trailer
The golems looks dire but otherwise it looks good. When is it on?!?!?

Fringe Season 2 Ep 17 Review

Olivia. In the Lab. With the Revolver.

Miranda (Diane Kruger of ‘National Treasure’) is the victim of the week as she dies horribly. Olivia is stoic and chats to the annoying bowling philosopher. She’s awkward around Peter and wants to tell him that he‘s not who he thinks he is. Walter asks her not to wailing: “He will never forgive me.”

Well maybe Walter should thought of that before abducting his dead son’s double from a parallel universe. The gang chase down the villain of the week. A Typhoid Mary created by Walter’s drug experiments years earlier. In fact the Typhoid Mary and all his victims were in day care with Olivia and all were experimented on by Walter. How many lives has this man screwed up again? In this and the other universe? Do numbers go that high?

Olivia decides not to tell Peter for selfish reasons. She likes having a friend and she wants to sleep with him. This won’t rebound on her in terrible ways I’m sure. The Typhoid Mary attacks Olivia and she fights him off with IKEA. Walter chooses this moment to tell Olivia that he will tell Peter after all. That’ll go well. This is okay.

What happened to Olivia’s super hearing and glimmer sensing abilities? Who activated the Typhoid Mary? Where are the rest of the drug trial kids?

Best Lines:
“Could you get a sample of this pus?”

“It wouldn’t be the strangest thing we’ve seen but it would be close.”

“I’ve always been a little foggy as to your motives.”

“I’m fairly certain that you’re not prepared to lose him.”

“I have to tell him who he really is.”

Book Review: Gaslight Grotesque

Gaslight Grotesque: Nightmare Tales of Sherlock Holmes edited by J.R. Campbell and Charles Prepolec

This follow up to ’Gaslight Grimoire’ is like its predecessor in that it contains stories of vastly differing merit.

This is a creepy sequel/retelling of ’The Hound of the Baskervilles’ and it's good.

The Death Lantern
A murder is captured on film stock. This is good.

Emily’s Kiss
Holmes and Watson learn of a creepy family and their curse. This has an unnerving ending and is very good.

The Last Windigo
Holmes and Watson investigate Canadian folklore. This is okay.

Exalted are the forces of Darkness
Holmes and Watson have an unwelcome ally in Aleister Crowley. This is okay.

The Affair of the Heart
An impossible murder and an impossible trap. This is okay.

The Hand Delivered Letter
Moriarty didn’t die at the Falls and sends Holmes a letter detailing the monumental revenge he has taken on his adversary. This is chilling and excellent.

Of the Origin of the Hound of the Baskervilles
This retelling of the ‘Hound of the Baskervilles’ is very good.
