Rewatched 'Last Resort' 1x09&1x10:
Cinderella Liberty
We see flashbacks of the what the SEALS pulled in Pakistan. Chaplin bluffs and is widdely disliked. There is a dark impetus as a boat full of the submariners families is hijacked by angry Pakistanis. There are contrarian views, angry demands and any lingering illusions shattered. Christine is carried off.
Chaplin has not done much to restore his standing. This is not a moral universe. Kylie gets a message to Kendal. This was one of the least lauded shows. This was not convincingly acted and Christine's sleazy lawyer sleazes. Things are fundamentally opaque. Chaplin is paranoid. There is retaliation. This is an unprecedented situation. Chaplin and Kendal are national terrors. Chaplin bellows and is bitterly entrenched.
There is no happiness or good feeling. This was not relentlessly tense. Chaplin rages ferociously. The SEALS lie. This is a moment of reckoning. Chaplin can't give into demands as he has no firing key. There is talking, talking and the SEALS lie more. The SEALS facilitated the nuking of Pakistan. There is ruinous ideology and James does retrospective judgment. Kylie has a brother? This was not unflinchingly realistic, people can't mitigate rage and factionalism is bred. This was mundane and disappointing. There is opprobrium and Christine is sold out.
Best Lines:
“Shut up and die like good sailors.”
“These people didn't deserve this.”
“Being the one on the outside.”
“Sorry's not good enough right now.”
“A man capable of terrible acts.”
“This one's for history.”
“This is why you don't hijack nuclear submarines and try to conduct rogue foreign policy.”
“Trappings of valour.”
Blue Water
Something deeply rotten is going on. Kendal and James go looking for Christine. How did James and Kendal get to Manila? A Chinese envoy shows up with food and medicine and plants his flag. The COB wanders the jungle. Events are characterised by mistrust and, in some cases, open hostility. Kendal and Chaplin are driven further and further apart. Kylie hurls a coffee mug at a home invader.
Forces amass. Something far worse is coming. The submariners have 25 prisoners. Where's the beer wench? This was okay. The COB lies. A coup is planned and Christine is kidnapped again. Chaplin goes Bligh and Sophie is irrelevant and the Colarado is ever more set against its own nation.
Best Lines:
“The rogue captain.”
“You ungrateful bastard.”
“Know who's walking there.”
“Public enemy number 2.”
“Local thug with delusions of grandeur.”
“Become an inconvenience to your country.”
“Carry a log the size of a telephone pole over soft sand.”
“Everything is in the acceptance.”
“WHERE IS THE COB?!?”
