Star Wars: The Rise Of Kylo Ren Issues 2&3 Reviewed

Star Wars: The Rise Of Kylo Ren Issue 2

Ben Solo was groomed and abused, not that his parents or anyone else cared. The Knights Of Ren lurk. Ben hates his name and the expectations. His annoying former classmates lurk. This was goodish, better than issue 1. Why wasn't this backstory in the movies? Lor San Tekka lurks. Why didn't Luke notice or stop the abuse and grooming of Ben?

Best Lines:

“Can you skip to the part where you all run off crying?”

“You use the dark side like a hammer.”

“You are named after legends.”

“When we embrace it fully we become our truest selves.”

“Obi-Wan Keobi...big famous Jedi. Everyone thinks I'm supposed to be him. I never even met him. And Solo...did you know that's not even his real name? He's a lie. Everything is a lie.”

“The price of admission is steep.”

“The galazy will hear that name and see you.”

“Greatly expanded Jedi activity throughout the galaxy.”

Star Wars: The Rise Of Kylo Ren Issue 3

Why did the Knights Of Ren turn on Ben so quickly after he rejected the dark side? Ben hangs out with the Knights Of Ben in this issue and dresses in black. Ben's classmates are really annoying. There are terrible demands and Ben was behaviourally modified by the Emperor and nobody noticed or cared.

Ben was provoked to actions. Ben is a source of much jealously to a bint who was a classmate of his. Ben lived in self imposed isolation and so much avoidable distress. There is no utmost sense of urgency. If there was ever another path, the Emperor made certain Ben Solo could not see it. There are unimaginable consequences.

Ben Solo was never anyone's priority, no wonder he grew even more disgruntled. There is shady activity and toxic opinions and a slow painful manipulaiton of the misused Ben. He has yet to unleash horror with limitless violence. There is no real narrative excitment. Why didn't Luke try to save Ben? Why did his family just give up on him? This was not psychologically nuanced. People were out to harm Ben. One student is crass, shouty and shrieky.

Best Lines:

“The mask's kind of intense—-that's the point-”

“Most who do end up regretting it real quick.”
