Film Review: Blanche Fury (1948)

This is one of those alleged classic movies. I confess I found ‘All About Eve’ boring and this film was a bit dull too. Anyway Blanche Fuller is poor and bitter, you can tell she’s evil as she wears too much makeup and has ideas above her station.

So in true gothic melodrama style, she’s taken in by rich relatives to be a governess. Her uncle Mr Fury is imposing and her cousin Lawrence makes eyes at her. But Blanche is making eyes at the surly servant Thorn, who is the illegitimate son of the previous estate owner. Torn between her two cousins, what is a gold-digger to do? Why marry her boring cousin while sneaking around with her hot cousin who was born on the wrong side of the blanket.

But reaching too high always has consequences. So an estate populated by unpleasant horse shooting tantrum throwing rich people, a servant with a grudge, barn burning gypsies and an over made up drama junkie gold digger is bound to explode into murder, swooning and death by stupidity.

This was both OTT and slightly dull at the same time.
