Book Review: Quietus

Quietus by Tristan Palmgren
In medieval Italy, a Carthusian monk sees his cloister decimated by the Black Death. Watching the Black Death sweep across the world is an anthropologist from an alien empire. She is there to observe and learn if anything can help with the plague her empire is suffering.

She interferes and saves the monk and they learn that his world and her empire are about to face a reckoning. This tale of social crisis is good, enjoyable and full of grim probability and hideous revelations. I’ll read the sequel.

Best Lines:
“I have no desire to be bled dry to have my piss sniffed.”

“Deorbit.”

“Made too many wrong choices.”

“Memory-rooted.”

“You don’t even know how to make threats.”

“A walking disaster.”

“Used as a kinetic impactor, a ship this size could smash a world apart.”

“They’ll fight you to their graves.”
