Book Review: Warrior Enchantresses, part 2
Warrior Enchantresses edited by Kathleen M. Massie-Ferch and Martin H Greenberg, part 2
Amazon Gold
A conquistador and his wife stomp around South America. There is no emotional depth or sustained tension or cultural discourse. This turgid mess was like bleak caricature.
Best Line:
“Drained most men of all their good intentions.”
Qadishtu
An abominable tale of Ur that lacks a narrative tapestry and intense emotional catharsis. An off-putting woman with an exalted position has blinkered distain.
Best Line:
“Appear humble and ordinary.”
Eye Of Flame
A dire and way too long tale of Mongolia and the disruptive personalities there.
Phaistides
A tale of Troy and a woman’s OTT calculated display of outrage. This is a dull over-dramatisation of a woman who feels a moral obligation to be a moron. This fails absolutely.
Best Line:
“Their prize harlot Helen.”
A Wolf Upon The World
The origin story of a Valkyrie. This is full of sexual violence and a warrior who does not deserve respect.
The Lady Of The Mercians
A morale-sapping tale of Ye Olden Days in Englandshire.
Summoning The River
This tale of the Indus Valley is so bad, it makes me wish I was reading the ‘Alien Pregnant By Elvis’ anthology instead. This tale and sadly this anthology leaves you entirely unimpressed.
