Watched some of the ‘Poirot’ ep ‘Appointment With Death’. It starred Tim Curry in this Syria set tale. It is full of sinister forewarning and an evil old biddy who faces suitably nasty consequences for her vileness. This was contrived with a ludicrously over-complicated murder and an even more ludicrous climax. This dispensed with the normal narrative structure. It was not artistically innovative or creative. One by one rational explanations fall away. Poirot is blamey and unsad and it was nothing like the book.

Recall the ‘Misty’ stories ‘Screaming Point!’ about a resurrectionist or ‘Dressed To Kill’ about a spider fancy dress costume that isn’t fancy dress. ‘Danse Macabre’ about a corpse de ballet. ‘The Treatment’ about a yob turned into a tree. ’The Monster Of Green Acres’ was about a scarecrow that looks like the Green Goblin that has malevolent motives clearly ascribed to it. It was good and then there was ’House of Horror’ about waxworks, I think. I read issues 15 to 37 of ‘Misty’ and those stories haven’t cropped up yet. ‘Sticks and Stones’ is about a gossip columnist who gets got. ‘The House Across The Way...’ was not that good. The prose stories aren’t interesting. ‘Poor Jenny’ is a sad tale. ‘The Bell Jar’ is a tale of a vengeful old biddy. ‘Queen’s Weather’ is a dumb tale of bees’ revenge. ‘When The Lights Go Out!’ sees a girl encounters ghosts in a department store and she comes to a bad end.
‘Mrs Barlow’s Lodger...’ was a tale that made no sense. ‘Curse of the Condor’ is a memorable tale that sees a girl and her archaeologist grandfather look for a lost Inca city. It was sad. Imperilled women regularly face negative patronising comments and treatment by confrontational men. ‘Prize Possession’ is a bizarre tale of a typewriter. ‘Alien Seed’ is a tale of a triffid like plant. ‘The Eyes of the Gorgon’ was a tale of a mad scientist.
‘The Day The Sky Grew Dark...’ sees a girl visit her creepy uncle in his uncommonly intense tale of vengeful birds. ‘The Black Widow’ defies all laws of logic. ‘A Spell Of Trouble’ was the tale of an evil Queen and her insincerity. ‘The Pet Shop’ was about 2 snotty kids and their lack of moral concern. ‘When The Rain Falls...’ sees 2 slaves escape and the ending is good. ‘Song of Petina’ is an anti-hunting tale of frantic attempts for mercy and horrible treachery. It’s amazing how many children go through personal discomfort due to absent parents.
‘Curse of Gantreth House...’ is about an unfortunate serving girl and her very acrimonious boss. ‘Watch Your Step!’ was a silly unlovely tale of fairies. ‘Safe Until Morning’ is a tale of Nessie. ‘Titch’s Tale...’ sees a short girl go kite flying and aliens show up. This was mean with a ghastly ending. This was good. ‘What’s On The Other Side’ is a tale of a despicable witch who wishes ill to the world. It has a creepy ending. ‘The Visitors’ is a tale of a wishing well occupied by aliens who talk like Jar-Jar Binks. This was not mature and informed.
‘End Of The Line...’ a girl encounters weirdness on an Underground line. ‘Take Two’ is a ’Jaws’ knockoff. ‘The Last Laugh’ is okay but ends abruptly. ‘A Leap Through Time...' is a tale of a girl who travels to ancient Crete. ‘Doorway To Yesterday’ is about evil carnies being foiled. ‘Last Encounters...’ is a tale of aliens. ‘Elmo’s Revenge’ is a confusing tale. ‘Dead End!’ is about a bully’s end. ‘The Girl Who Walked On Water’ is a tale of a delinquent girl. ‘Happy Families’ is a tale with no purpose or vision. ‘Mirror...Mirror’ was cringe-inducing. ‘The Cats of Carey Street’ was conclusively dumb.
