1996 (maybe) Tape Tale

Dug out another old videotape. It could be from 1996, 1997 or 1998. Anyway it has four tv shows on it. One 'Profiler', one 'Babylon 5' and two 'The X Files'.

The 'Profiler' ep was a season 1 ep entitled 'FTX: Field Training Exercise'. I remember liking this show, even if was hard to accept Bond villain Robert Davi as a good guy. This show had moody opening credits and Julian McMahon (of 'Fantastic Four', 'Charmed' and 'Nip/Tuck') as John Grant. McMahon seems to be the only cast member who still has a career. Thankfully this ep was light on the ongoing super intelligent (and ridiculously omnipotent) serial killer Jack plot arc. It's only in retrospect that you realise how irritating and drawn out the Jack plot line was. I gave up on this show after season 2, so never saw how they finally wrapped it up in season 3. Anyway in this ep, the VCTF plays a wargame. Gina Torres of 'Firefly' pops up as Nathan's ex-wife. After the season 1 cliffhanger, Nathan disappeared, never to be seen or mentioned again. This ep has clips from previous eps. There is a revelation from John Grant. Jack shows up doing his taxes and writing his murder kits off as tax deductible. The war game goes wrong and a killer is revealed in an OTT climax. This was okay.

Best Lines:
"We do what he wants us to do. Invade each others privacy."
"I'll dump out her desk."

"We spent the whole of my childhood on the move so that he wouldn't find us."

The 'Babylon 5' ep was a season 5 called 'Movements of Fire and Shadow'. Sheridan annoys, how that man married three times is a mystery. Three more and he'd be on par with King Henry VIII. Delenn and Sheridan make twu luv faces at each other, their romance was sickening. Vir annoys. Lyta doesn't let people walk over her anymore, why was the whole telepath war plotline never shown? Sheridan rants. There is a lot of bad acting. The Alliance bomb Centauri Prime. This was uh.

The first of 'The X Files' eps was 'Memento Mori' in which Scully learnt she had the tv version of the big C. Mrs Scully has hissyfits. Scully does an annoying voiceover in a tone that suggests the dentist overdid the numbing injections. Skinner annoys. The Lone Gunman and Mulder grapple with made up computer technology. Somehow it all ties into ova stealing alien hybrids. This was boring and the Scully/big C plotline was utterly offensive.

The second 'X Files' ep was the season 4 cliffhanger 'Gethsemane'. Scully debunks the X Files via lots of bizarre dialogue like: "His belief in the biggest of lies' and "Calculated to perpetuate false truth" and "Facts overwhelmed by the lies created to support them." An alien body was found in the ice or is it a fake crated for the sole purpose of fooling Mulder? Scully's brother Bill shows up. Mulder attends an alien autopsy and then apparently dies. This was all so po-faced and ended up meaning nothing. This was okayish.
